Water collection system in Boretto
Design and creation of a lifting system
The work in question is part of a general project to adjust the bank safety in the province of Reggio Emilia to make the lowland area near the Po River safer, following the floods in October 2000.
The project under observation proposes the realisation of a water collection system near the discharge gutter of the lifting installation in Boretto to allow a portion of the flood waters to discharge into the Cavo Parmigiana Moglia – Canale Derivatore system directly into the Po River through the same derivation canal and then using the intake of Boretto, also when the river levels are high.
Doing this requires the change of the barriers of the main discharge gutter as well as the intake mandracchio. Near the gutter a water-scoop device was installe that allows water to discharge no matter what the levels of the Po are. The system is composed of three submergible water-scoop machines with a capacity of 4,6 m³/sec each with a prevalence of 5.10 m (total around 14 m³/sec).
The project also includes the creation of all the work in reinforced concrete required for the installation of the pumps.
