Integrated logistics, transverse Po Valley railway, impact and mitigation of the routes, territory and infrastructure
In the scope of the intent protocol for the modernisation and enhancement of the Po Valley railway system, which completes the railway connection from the Tyrrhenian Sea to the Brenner pass and towards the port of Ravenna, the idea of a new route for the transport of goods was considered outside of the inhabited areas which the current route passes through.
Numerous alternative routes were considered, keeping in mind interference and impact. These were considered in terms of technical, economic and financial feasibility and environmental sustainability in the provinces of Reggio and Mantua. The purpose is to avoid going though inhabited areas with freight trains, both for the serenity of the inhabitants and to allow suitable infrastructure capacity, in the scope of modal rebalancing of the national transport system, with the aim of increasing competitiveness and safety, but also to reduce emissions.
