The new integrated defence system set out for the town of Cesenatico and its territory, which is increasingly fragile due to its subsiding and rising sea levels, includes coastal closures and mobile barriers at the mouth of Porto canale. They were created using a system known as “Porte Vinciane” or “Da Vinci Gates” along with a lifting system required to empty internal rainwater when the system is closed.
The structure, which is 24 meters wide and goes down 5 meters below sea level, is accompanied by connections to the banks to the walkway flooring and the new square on the sea dedicated to the “Sposa dei marinai” (the sailors’ bride).
It is an attempt to combine art and technology, to use research, innovation, engineering and architectural applications for the social, cultural, environmental and landscape needs and issues of these prestigious areas which are full of fascination and history, but also great vitality and dynamism.
