Hydroelectric plant and navigation basin in Turin

Power plant and navigation basin in the centre of the city of Turin Definitive design of a hydroelectric plant with navigation basin to be created at the Michelotti point along the Po River in the centre of Turin just downstream from the Vittorio Emanuele I bridge.

The project is part of a larger requalification and renewable energy development project requested by the local council of the city of Turin.
Indeed, along with the hydroelectric plant, a navigation basin will be created to get past the barrier as well as a special ramp for kayaking.

The hydroelectric plant will be located on the right side of the river and will be an in-line design with an intake and a headrace canal, turbines with their technical rooms and the outlet canal for a total length of 120 meters and a width of around 10 meters.

The plant will be created in line with the architectural style of the area using suitable materials and finishings that are in harmony with the landscape in the area.

The main block of the plant, made mainly of reinforced concrete, will be covered in the visible areas by natural stone, similar in colour to that used in local architecture, such as in the Vittorio Emanuele I bridge nearby. Then there will be coverings in weathering steel, that will make up the letters indicating the main elements that make up the installation.

The covering of the technical rooms inside the plant and the outlet canals will be made accessible to the public thanks to a great terrace on the Po River. The coverings will be in part in natural stone and in part with hanging flower beds. Part of the covering over the turbine will be made with a removable covering that can be walked on.
The bank above the outlet canal will be recreated to reactivate the existing cycle lane and foot path.

Alongside the plant there will be a navigation basin to get by the Michelotti barrier to reactivate the connection between the upstream and downstream sections of the urban part of the river . On the left bank there will ne a ramp of around 210 meters length and 15 meters width for canoeing and kayaking.
