Project for the creation of a new barrier along the Po River, downstream from the existing one, at the waterway lifting system at Moglia di Sermide

The project includes the creation of a new barrier placed downstream from the exiting one, which is no longer able to withstand the increasing water pressure due to the gradual increment of the Po flood levels.

The new barrier is located in the existing discharge mandracchio at the same time integrating the two functions performed by the upstream structures, closure and lifting.

Indeed the new structure integrates both the barrier to contain the floods and the lifting system to discharge the internal water towards the river so as to include the safety adjustment of the waterway stem in a single structure.
The structure has two central line openings of 5 meters regulated by a system of two rectangular barriers with a height of 5.5 meters for the lower one and 6 meters for the higher.

On the sides there are rooms for 10 submerged water scoops, divided into 2 groups of 5 on each side of the structure, intended for lifting a quantity of water that can be lifted by the existing installation equal to 40 m³/s.

The structure is placed on deep foundations made of structural diaphragms in enforced concrete for a total height of 15 meters and width of 1 meter that go down to the sandy substrates under the first layer of clay so as to place the structure on a substratum with superior mechanical properties.

Similar to the previous structure, there will be a service path positioned behind the barrier system.
