New School Complex of Quattro Castella

TECHNOLOGICAL NATURALIZATION

In 2023, Binini Partners won the definitive and executive design, construction management and safety coordination during the design phase of the “New School Complex of Quattro Castella”, through the “Bando Futura”, the anonymous competition in two phases of the Ministry of Education and Merit for the construction of 212 innovative schools, to be built with PNRR funds.

The new schools will host 465 students in a single two-story building (3,744 m²), equal to half of the school population of Quattro Castella. Specifically, it is a public investment project that will replace two buildings in the area, the “G. Pascoli” primary school and the “A. Balletti” secondary school.

The school is currently under construction, the demolition works have been completed and the goal is to complete the building by March 2026.

The concept of proximity is fundamental in the development of the project proposal: the new building aims to become not only a sustainable and innovative school, but also a real hub for the town. The gym and the auditorium, positioned so as to have both their own access from inside the school and an independent external controlled access, in fact allow the building to be used even outside school hours, guaranteeing constant flows of access to the area, mixing cultural and sports proposals. This distribution solution aims to contribute to the formation of a living and attractive, dynamic and flexible architectural organism.

The school project was further studied in close coordination with the development of the large external green area, overcoming the previous separation between the building and the external area. The aim was to optimize the position of the building within the lot to ensure the maximization of the area dedicated to the garden-vegetable garden, park-square. The classrooms on the ground floor, therefore, open directly onto the external space protected by the overhanging roof and consequently “flow” into the adjacent educational lawn. The freedom of students to move freely and safely from the school environments to the agora at their disposal and continue in a natural context designed for play, aims to help the process of civic education, typical of teaching hours, also through an educational architecture.

The design idea is based on the creation of a new school center oriented towards the future, a place where students, but also parents and teachers, can feel at home. A structure capable of satisfying the spatial educational needs and educational expectations of families, supporting the teaching staff through comfortable environments capable of satisfying work needs.
